Applications Open
St. Barbara Catholic School is currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year for TK – 8th Grades.
Admissions Process
A student is admitted to St. Barbara Catholic School after a grade-appropriate assessment has been administered and active report card grades (available at the time of testing) are evaluated. Birth certificates, baptismal records, immunization records, and other pertinent legal documents are also required. Acceptance is based on assessment results, satisfactory report card grades, and/or recommendations from the preceding school. All students enterting St. Barbara Catholic School are automatically placed on first quarter probationary status. Each child’s adjustment and progress in academics, conduct, effort, homework completion, and social achievement will be evaluated after the first quarter to determine continued membership in school. Academic and social progress must indicate satisfactory achievement.
Immunization Requirements
California schools are required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry. Parents must show their child’s Immunization record as proof of immunization.
Students Entering Kindergarten
Immunization | Dosage |
---|---|
Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus (DPT) | Five (5) doses |
Polio | Four (4) doses |
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) | Two (2) doses |
Hepatitis B | Three (3) doses |
Varicella (chickenpox) | Two (2) doses |
Students Entering First Grade
State law also requires each child’s family to provide, within 90 days of entrance into the first grade, a report of a health exam documenting that the child has received a health checkup within the previous 18 months.
Students Entering Grade Seven
Immunization | Dosage |
---|---|
Tetanus, reduced Diphtheria, and acellular Pertussis (Tdap) | One (1) dose |
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) | Two (2) doses |
All students from out of state must show proof of varicella (chickenpox) immunization.
Age Requirements
Please note the specific cut-off ages for TK and Kindergarten programs:
- Transitional Kindergarten: Age 4 by September 1st
- Kindergarten: Age 5 by September 1st.
This is a clear definition and one that The Diocese Office of Catholic Schools strongly upholds. With children of such a young age, even a short window of time beyond can make a difference.
Parent Involvement
It is of utmost importance that parents agree to actively support the spiritual, academic, volunteer, and fundraising programs of the school. It is also important that parents remember that their support of the school, especially regarding prompt payment of tuition and a willingness to volunteer, is a prerequisite to re-registration and a condition for continued presence in the school. The school may deny re-admission to any family delinquent in tuition or who has not met the volunteer hours requirement. In addition, failure to support the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the school may also result in non-admission. If volunteering and/or fundraising is not possible, an additional financial assessment will be added to the tuition.
